Seth Godin – All marketers are liars.
This video is an interesting watch if you have the time. Godin talks about how to marketing is completely irrelevant if the story you are telling has no intrinsic relevance to your prospect.
The reason most companies are so sucessful is because they offer you something different than anyone else. This ‘thing’ that they offer you is not always something tangible (In most cases not.) Having the ability to leverage your brand to give your customer experiences rather than just the product itself, can have far reaching benefits. Giving someone a reason to talk about your brand in a positive light in everyday conversation is VERY powerful.
Godin relates this idea of being extraordinary to Google’s own structure. Not only is thier market share continually rising but thier brand name has become a commonplace verb in our everyday venacular. ( Just ‘Google’ it.)
Enabling your brand to become as innovative as Google is a daunting task. So a good place to start would be encouraging your company to do something new and different than anyone else out there. Doing this should create some sort of buzz and thus empower your brand to become social currency for your customer/fan base to use in an everyday conversation.
Interesting stuff by seth godin. Give it a go
